Fancy a Duvet Day?

A duvet day is a day where your first waking thought is “Oh shucks, I can’t face today!”

So what is a duvet day?

Many companies have allocated a set number of annual ‘duvet days’ for their employees.

A duvet day can be taken whenever an employee wants or rather NEEDS a day off, sometimes for no other reason than to be lazy in bed, and that‘s ok because you need no excuse for a ‘duvet day’.

Here’s 5 reasons why duvet days are a must:

1. Me-time
When last did you have a day with absolutely nothing to do? No chores. No shopping. No getting dressed. No cleaning. No exercise. Nothing. Nada! Well, that‘s the key ingredient to a successful duvet day - staying in bed and practising the art of doing n-o-t-h-i-n-g.

2. Health booster
Research proves that a little extra R&R helps boost your immune system and fights off colds, coughs and other nasty little viruses. A sprinkle of magic duvet days could be all that’s needed to eliminate sick days.

3. Top up your energy levels
Most of us need a caffeine fix in the morning to kick start our engines. Unfortunately it doesn’t last too long. Studies reveal that occasionally spending an extra hour or two in bed helps boost our energy levels on a longer term basis.

4. Stress reliever
Most of us have incredibly stressful lifestyles. We often don’t get to just lie back and press pause. A day in bed can dramatically reduce your stress levels. Switch your phone off. Close your laptop. No emails. No social media accounts. Shut off from the outside world - focus 100% on just you, and perhaps a box of chocolates and a good series or book.

5. Increase in productivity and motivation
Fatigue can help reduce your productivity levels at home or at work. A duvet day time-out will recharge those batteries to help improve your productivity for the rest of the week.

So, I guess step one is to help the boss discover the magical world of duvet days. Good luck!
